Wilderness Systems Tempest 165

We use our Tempest for lessons in traditional, sit-inside sea kayaks, and for tours with experienced sea kayakers.  The165 model is designed for paddlers with smaller frames. Wilderness Systems does better than most manufacturers at making a seat and thigh bracing system that adjusts to get exactly the snug fit you need to properly edge and roll a sit-inside kayak. Other great features are the day hatch, the retractable skeg, the compass mount and the deck bungies, which are unusually well done (taut and ample, so nothing gets away).

Ms. Kayak says:  This is one of my favorite sea kayaks. I've taken it across Long Island Sound, on coastal touring trips and for endurance training sessions. It performs beautifully in all conditions. The strongly rockered hull makes it easy to turn and to roll. The day hatch is a great feature for access to gear while on-water. The skeg helps control direction in side winds.

Karl and Pat enjoy the Tempests on a tour through the Norwalk Islands, July 2005.
